Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup (packed) brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or more, to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • 34 cups broccoli florets

Instructions

  1. Slice flank steak against the grain into thin pieces. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, water, vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, cornstarch, ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes to make the sauce.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add broccoli florets and cook for 4-5 minutes until tender-crisp. Transfer to a plate.
  3. In the same skillet, add remaining olive oil and sear the beef in one layer for about 2 minutes until browned but slightly rare.
  4. Return broccoli to the skillet with beef and pour in the sauce. Stir until well-coated and sauce thickens (1-3 minutes). Serve immediately.
