  • 1 small yellow onion, diced (about a cup)
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 (28-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 pound Rotini pasta
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • optional – garnish with parsley (fresh or dried)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté diced onions until soft.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in garlic, herbs, salt, red pepper, and flour; cook for 1 minute.
  4. Pour in tomato sauce and beef broth; bring to a boil then simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Cook rotini according to package instructions; drain.
  6. Mix heavy cream and cooked pasta into the sauce until well combined. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted.
  7. Serve immediately and garnish with parsley if desired.
